Guiding Your Child through the Dark Alleys of Showbiz
Ever considered your kid being in show biz? Think she’ll be great on the
cover of a national magazine or sharing the silver screen? Then it’s up
to you to help your child make the right choices. You need to understand
the factors that affect the lives of child artists and strive to eliminate
any negative influences, to enrich your child’s life.
Pressures of early stardom. Things to
be aware of…
Being a child star brings with it money, fame, and a dream-like life enjoyed
by a few. But, the early onset of fame & recognition can also wedge a gap in
the personal well-being of your child. Once he is modeling seriously, the
atmosphere around him is very different from that of a normal kid of the same
age. Hence, it is inevitable and should be expected to come across some
friction while they grow up. The stress and pressure faced by showbiz kids
can lead to an emotional or physical breakdown. It is how you help your child
deal with this which determines if your young one grows up to create a success
story, or one of a burnout.
When you are involved in a multi-billion dollar industry, with all the glitz
and glamour, it is likely that you fall prey to factors like drugs and alcohol.
Being a youngster can only heighten the risk of getting hooked. It is tough
enough to be an adolescent in normal terms, what with the constant attention and
pressure to perform, things get worse for them.
You need to make a difference.
As parents, you should make sure your kid is fit to deal with the pressures of
showbiz. To start off, it is important to make your child understand that the
glamour quotient is just a perk of the profession and shouldn’t be treated as
a way of life. It’s easy to get carried away by all the money & fame, but you
should make sure that your child is well grounded and has his head on his
shoulders.
Secondly, it is essential to surround your child with a natural setting in
which he would otherwise be in. Encouraging them to interact with other kids
of the same age will inculcate a sense of belonging and bonding. This will
help in forwarding his growth and filtering out external influences attached
with the profession.
Finally, monitoring and evaluating the holistic growth of your child is
imperative to keep in check that he is on track. Lack of guidance, absence of
a platform to interact, and non-existence of a support system, are the main
reasons for the number of burnout stories that we hear about.
Be there for them.
Make sure that you are there for your young ones and help them shape a vibrant
career. Love, understanding, and support are the key factors that can ensure
this. Always remember that, your child needs you, your support, and your
guidance no matter what.
